Early Care and Education

Parents as Teachers

Parents as Teachers connects your family with a qualified Parent Educator who will guide you on your journey to raising a child that is healthy, safe, and ready for school. During each session, parents will learn how to promote overall development through play. Parents will also learn valuable information about developmental milestones and how to help their child succeed during each stage. Sessions can be scheduled in the comfort of your own home and all materials needed for activities will be provided. In addition, enrollment into the program gives parents access to monthly group meetings, developmental screenings, and referrals to other community resources.

Eligible families must reside in Broward County with one or more risk factors and a child 0-5 years old.

The Parents as Teachers Program does not offer child care subsidy.

    Jump Start Early Childhood Consultation

The Jump Start Early Childhood Consultation program is modeled after the evidence-based Georgetown University’s Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Model with the goals of increasing capacity of childcare providers to support children’s social-emotional development and manage challenging behaviors; and decreasing preschool expulsion and teachers’ job-related stress.

This county-wide initiative is led by the University of Miami and offers three levels of support:

    • Program Level: supports center administrators in making changes to practices and/or policies to benefit all children and adults in the setting.
    • Classroom Level: works with teachers to decrease job-related stress and improve the quality of care and education by helping to identify attitudes, beliefs, practices, and conditions that may be undermining quality relationships between teachers and children.
    • Child Level: helps parents and caregivers understand, assess, and address the child’s needs.

Jump Start Early Childhood Consultation is available in Miami-Dade.
